George Grey Barnard
Born in : 1863 - Dead in : 1938
One of the most original sculptors of his day. He gained prominence at the Paris Salon in 1894 with Struggle of the Two Natures. His vast collection of medieval sculpture formed the core of the collection of The Cloisters in New York City.

Biography   
He lived in Kankakee at age 5 through age 13, and later in his life donated 100 of his studio plaster statues and studies for display in the Kankakee's old Central School.

He studied engraving, then sculpture, first at the Art Institute of Chicago, then at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris. In 1895 he married Edna Monroe of Boston and settled on the island of Manhattan. Mr. Barnard died in 1938 leaving Kankakee a rich legacy.
