Ce fils de Mathieu Bonnassieux et de Catherine Vergoin obtiendra le Grand Prix de Rome et séjournera Villa Médicis, du 19 janvier 1837 au 14 avril 1842. Il décédera le 3 juin 1892, à Paris, et sera inhumé au cimetière Montparnasse.
