Born in : 1835 / Dead in : Berlin, 1913Gropius, a great-uncle of the famous Bauhaus architect Walter Gropius, founded the company of Gropius & Schmieden with his partner Heino Schmieden and became one of the first successful private architects, with numerous villas and hospital buildings. With his strict formal language, he was one of the last proponents of Schinkel classicism.
