This capital was set atop one of ten columns in a portico built on the front of the temple of Amon at Hibis in Kharga Oasis. It is an early example of the composite capital, in which several kinds of plants were combined. This composition is quite simple, consisting of two papyrus species : eight plants of the common Cyperus papyrus (above) alternate with eight of Cyperus alopecuroides (below).
