The three heads originally belonged to statues depicting Hatshepsut in the guise of Osiris that stood almost 11 feet high in the niches built into the rear wall of the upper terrace of her temple at Deir el Bahri. This head, wearing the White Crown of Upper Egypt, came from a niche on the southern side of the wall. Like all Osirides of Hatshepsut's temple, these figures are architectural accents rather than freestanding statues and were carved from the same material as the monument itself.
