 | Description | |
Like its companion frescoes in the gallery, this allegorical figure of Geometry, identified by the inscription on the base of a feigned signature, is from Palazzo Valle-Marchesini-Sala in Vicenza. The simulated architecture, foreshortened from a viewing point in the center of the room, was carried out by a specialist in this sort of work, Girolamo Mengozzi, who collaborated with Tiepolo on a number of commissions. The frescoes date from 1740s and were removed about 1900. While painting the figure, the artist canceled out his initial idea of showing an upraised right hand holding a compass.
