Description

Like its companion frescoes in the gallery, this allegorical figure of Grammar, identified by the inscription on the base of a feigned signature, is from Palazzo Valle-Marchesini-Sala in Vicenza. The simulated architecture, foreshortened from a viewing point in the center of the room, was carried out by a specialist in this sort of work, Girolamo Mengozzi, who collaborated with Tiepolo on a number of commissions. The frescoes date from 1740s and were removed about 1900.
