Memphis (Egypte)

Description

The upper register of this relief depicts cattle being force fed while the tomb owner, followed by several retainers, looks on at the right. In the lower register, ships unload their produce, which is the first heaped on shore then carried away by porters. This relief block almost certainly came from a tomb at Memphis. With an infusion of liberating energy and ideas from Amarna, private relief work flourished in Memphis in the post-Amarna period. Here the lively degree of attention given to the minor figures and mundane scenes is notable, as is the somewhat caricatural style.
