Description   

Un certain nombre de c?r?monies, ainsi que les masques et les sculptures associ?s, portent le nom de "Malanggans". Ces rituels, pratiqu?s de fa?on ?pisodique aujourd'hui, concernaient le culte des morts. Ils ?taient combin?s avec l'initiation des jeunes qui devaient remplacer les disparus au sein de la communaut?. Ces sculptures, les plus sophistiqu?es du monde oc?anien, ?taient expos?es dans un enclos r?serv?, parfois en tr?s grand nombre. Elles ?taient ensuite d?truites ou abandonn?es.
