This is one of the earliest reliquaries associated with Thomas Becket, murdered in Canterbury Cathedral on December 29, 170 and canonized in 1173. On the front, Becket's martyrdom being blessed by an angel above (inscribed in Latin : "Saint Thomas dies"). On the Back,, Thomas is buried with an angel receiving his soul above (inscribed in Latin : " ... his the blood of Saint Thomas".)
