The engraved Latin inscription on the back identify the subject : "Bishop Reginald of Bath hands this over to Queen Margaret of Sicily". The inscription on the front lists the relics (now lost) contained under a crystal : 'Of the blood of Saint Tomas martyr ..." The bishop probably presented this pendent to the Queen Margaret on the occasion of her son's marriage to Henri II's daughter in 1177.
