 | Description | |
The gold and jewel encrusted shrine of the body of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral was one of the most venerated in Europe. On orders of King Henry VIII, it was melted down in 1538, and the jewels were dispersed. This rare badge records the most important features of the shrine. Pilgrim's badges are souvenirs the holy site purchased by the faithful as evidence of their journey.
