Description   

The gabled stone sarcophagi used for Christian burial were the model for miniature copies throughout the Byzantine Empire as container for relics. They usually held remains, which were thought to be capable of working miracles.

Inscribed in Greek : “In fulfillment of a vow of John the Bishop”.
