The Indian Hunter (1866) by John Quincy Adams Ward was shown at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1867 and made the sculptor's reputation. It was the first sculpture by an American sculptor to be sited in Central Park, in 1869; it standsa on the pathway west of The Mall, between the Mall and Sheep Meadow, at approximately 66th Street.
