Description   

This is the first portrait painted by David in Brussels. Following Napoleon defeat at Waterloo in 1815, David painted General G?rard who had been forced into exile in 1816. He was made Baron by Napoleon after the battle of Wagram and was named Count of the Empire in 1813.
