Description

The picture takes the title from the pomegranate, fruit that symbolized the Resurrection, in the hand of the Child. Botticelli painted this tondo in 1487 for a florentine magistracy, the Tribunale dei Massai di Camera, whose seat was in Signoria Palace; in XVII century the work is documented in medicean collections. The frame is still the original one, carved and decorated with gilded fleur-de-lis on blu ground.
