 | Description | |
The canvas was a processional banner commissioned to Andrea by the Florentine confraternity of Saint James, called 'del Nicchio', whose seat was near the Innocenti Hospital. Such a banner was carried in procession by a porter specifically hired for this service. The painting, mentioned by Vasari in 1550, represents the titular saint of the confraternity and two childs, wearing the confraternal habit.
