 | Description | |
This statue, along with the nearby and several others in this gallery, came from the vast temple of Amenophis III on the West Bank, famous for the so-called "Colossi of Memnon". This was one of the largest temples ever constructed in Egypt, and it was home to very many statues of the king and the gods. The temple stood on the edge of the cultivated area, and seems to have designed to be flooded during the annual inundation of the Nile.
