 | Description | |
This painting gives very clear evidence of Degas' working methods. The artist has reworked the legs and arms of the dancers on the left, but rather than paint over the extra legs and arms, he has reinforced his later additions with black and brown outlines. In addition, the thumbprints left in the paint surface on the foreground figure indicate the extent to which he used his hands to fashion the medium.
