Description

Rodin created this sculpture from studies of the torso and legs for "Saint John the Baptist Preaching", c.1878. Rodin's practice of keeping plaster parts of his work for later reuse and his presentation of fragmentary human anatomy as finished work was revolutionary, allowing twentieth-century sculptors to adopt an increasingly abstract attitude towards human forms.
