 | Description | |
Scenes from ancient history and mythology were popular subjects for the painted chests, or "cassoni", that decorated the bedrooms of wealthy Florentines. This panel depicts the adventures of Ulysses, from his encounter with the Cyclops Polyphemus, who devoured people whole, to his homecoming. The figures are portrayed in contemporary costume, and scenes are integrated into a continuous landscape.
