 | Description | |
The altarpiece celebrates the rosary, which is especially venerated by Dominicans because they believe that the Virgin gave it to Saint Dominic, founder of the order. Saint Dominic stands on a globe symbolizing his order's missionary work around the world, while the Christ Child holds a rosary, and Saint Hyacinth holds the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance. The round decorations on the altar cloth depict episodes from the life of Mary and Jesus that worshippers meditate on through the sequence of the rosary beads.
