 | Description | |
Luca Cambiaso was the most important painter in sixteenth-century Genoa. He transcended the purely local tradition of his artist - father by studying paintings produced throughout Northern and Central Italy. Cambiaso showed facility with a wide range of subject matter and produced many mythological paintings, particularly in the third quarter of the century. On stylistic grounds, Venus and Cupid can be assigned in the latter part of that period.
