Description

Millais was a founder of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, an English movement dedicated to recapturing the sincerity of earlier traditions in painting. Set in the 1500s, this scene of two kidnapped daughters embracing their father is the artist's invention. John Everett Millais depicted a sixteenth-century scene of a father paying ransom for his two daughters.
