 | Description | |
Roads like this one were used by Pissarro and his contemporary Claude Monet as on-site studios for depictions of light colored by rain and snow. The two artists often worked side by side (Monet's painting of a snow-covered road in the same town hangs nearby). Solid forms and delicate textures lend the springtime picture naturalism; however, the vigorous interplay of brushwork foreshadows Pissarro's later, more overtly impressionistic work.
