 | Description | |
Perronneau, who usually worked with pastels, here transferred his brilliant, sketchy technique to the oil medium. Thin washes of color overlaid with bold strokes and flicks of the brush create a lively surface and an animated portrait. Charles-François Pinceloup de la Grange (1716-1799) and his wife, whose portrait hang nearby, belonged to prominent families in the French region of Orléans, where Perronneau found many patrons. | More pictures | |
