Victoire-Pauline de Riquet de Caraman (1764-1834), presents herself as a fashionable and intellectual figure. The artist adopted Peter Paul Rubens's technique of painting on a panel with thin layers of brilliant color to achieve animated and polished portrait of European royalty and aristocracy.
