Description

According to Greek mythology, the demigod Perseus killed Medusa, whose appearance was so hideous that anyone who looked at her turned to stone. When Perseus was forced to battle with Phinaeus, an unsuccessful suitor of his wife, Andromeda, he brandished the head of Medusa and turned Phineus and his followers to stone. Ricci was a central figure in the revival of Venice as a major center of painting in the late 1600s and early 1700s.
