 | Description | |
Forte was a founder of the distinguished school of still life painting in Naples. This composition sets the bounties of autumn against an open landscape and sky. Forte enlivened the composition by manipulating the effects of natural life. Warm sunlight halos the apples while dappled highlights capture the difference between the translucency of grapes and the clarity of water drops. Forte painted this work on cooper to give the surface a polished smoothness similar to fine enamel.
