 | Description | |
Valentin spent most of his brief career in Rome, where he was profoundly influenced by the realism and dramatic lighting found in Caravaggio's art. This painting depicts a scene from the Bible. When an adulteress is brought before Jesus, he is asked if she should be stoned. He stoops down, writes on the ground, and says, «Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her".
