 | Description | |
The Bible relates how Joseph, after being sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, was bought by Potiphar, captain of Pharaoh's guard. Potiphar's wife, finding Joseph pleasing, tried to seduce him. Reni illustrated the moment when the virtuous Joseph turns to flee, leaving his cloak in her hands, which is then used as evidence against him.
