 | Description | |
Procaccini was the leading artist in Milan during the late 1500s and early 1600s. While the acidic colors, compressed space, elegant figures, and extravagant drapery of this panel exemplify the style known as Mannerism, the heightened emotions, dramatic contrasts of light and dark, and virtuoso handling of paint belong to the new Baroque era.
