 | Description | |
Painted to commemorate her marriage, this portrait of an unknown young woman is the pendant to Nicolaes Pickenoy's Portrait of a Man. An inscription dates the painting to 1632 and gives her age as twenty-one. The pair are now reunited for the first time since they were separated in 1927.
Pickenoy was one of the most successful Dutch portraits of the 1600s, in part because of his ability to meticulously render his sitter's finest clothes, as seen here in the embroidered gown and handkerchief and lace cap and cuffs. | More pictures | |
