 | Description | |
Bercheem lived in Haarlem, an important center for painters of the Dutch countryside, yet he was a leading advocate for Italianate landscape painting. While it is not certain that he ever visited Italy, in this imaginary view he captured the sparkling play of golden sunlight on varied, hilly terrain that is typical of many Italian scenes.
