 | Description | |
This altarpiece depicts the visionary experiences of Chiarito del Voglia, the layman who commissioned it. The central symbolic representation of the communion of the apostles is a relief executed in the unusual medium of carved plaster (gesso) that has been gilded. It contrasts with the narrative scenes painted in tempera. The left wing portrays the events leading to Christ's Crucifixion, while the right wing shows Chiarito envisioning blood flowing from the Trinity.
