 | Description | |
These fragments once formed the wings of a portable altar that was dismembered long ago (the central panel has not been identified). The smaller pieces at the top, from the Yale University Art Gallery, are temporarily reunited here with the Getty Museum's standing saints. Recent technical analysis of the wood grain established conclusively that the fragments came from the same panels. These fragments show the sensitivity of observation and expression that made Fra Angelico one of the most popular painters of his time.
