 | Description | |
This panel was once the central section of a portable three-part altarpiece devoted to events surrounding Christ's death. On the left, Saint Veronica wiped Christ's face with her veil; in the center is the crucifixion; on the right, Christ releases souls from purgatory. The unknown master who painted this work is named after his most famous creation, the Crucifixion altarpiece made for the Parliament of Paris.
