 | Description | |
Completed early in Tintoretto's career, this portrait nevertheless exhibits the bravura brushwork, here visible in the gloves and fur, characteristic of his mature work. Recent treatment by the Getty Museum's Painting Conservation Department uncovered a collector's seal on the back, which suggests the painting may have been owned by the Giustiniani family (renowned Italian collectors). Cleaning also revealed a balustrade behind the figure, and X-ray analysis revealed suggestions of drapery in the background of the painting.
