Description

Depicted here is a mystical experience of Saint Catherine of Sienna (1347-1380). Beccafumi showed her confessor, Raymond of Capua, celebrating Mass and looking for a missing piece of the consecrated Host as an angel miraculously conveys it to the grateful saint, who had prayed to receive it. This panel, with the nearby "Saint Catherine of Sienna Receiving the Stigmata", originally may have formed part of an altarpiece.
