 | Description | |
This work shows the Archangel Michael subduing a dragon. Originally this small panel must have been a part of a triptych or a large polyptych. Although it was once attributed to the so-called "Barna da Siena", an enigmatic artist active in the generation after Simone Martini, this attribution is still debated. The brilliant colors against a gold background and the detailed rendering of facial nuances clearly reflect the decoratively lyric style of the 14th century Sienese school.
