Paris awards the golden apple for beauty to Venus, goddess of love. Juno, queen of heaven, looks angry; Minerva, her armor at her feet, turns her back to the viewer. This subject was popular because it provided an opportunity to paint three female nudes. Rubens returned to it several times.
