 | Description | |
Charity is the most important of the three Christian virtues : Faith, Hope and Charity. Often depicted as a loving mother, here Charity puts a protective arm around one infant while two others clasp her. Van Dyck shows her looking heavenwards, because true charity combines love of one's neighbor with love of God.
