 | Description | |
In this peaceful scene a milkmaid, herdsmen, and a piping shepherd pass the time while their animals graze and drink at the water's edge. When the artist Thomas Gainsborough saw this painting in 1758 he was inspired to paint his own version of "The Watering Place", now also in the National Gallery.
