Vivarini was a member of one the great artistic dynasties successful in Venice in the 15th century. This work shows how each generation kept up with contemporary fashions. The challenging look of his sitter, as well as the picture's format, shows how Venetian portraiture was transformed by Antonello da Messina, recorded in Venice in 1475-6. Antonello's works are shown in this room.
