 | Description | |
The design and style of this relief became an important source for painters tackling the same subject. Some parts are highly expressive, others are more like ancient Roman sculpture in their regular monumentality. Giovanni Bellini and his fellow Venetian Carlo Crivelli, whose paintings of the Dead Christ can be seen in adjoining rooms, imitated Donatello's anatomies and agonized expressions.
