Description   

This altarpiece was commissioned for the church of San Francesco in Fabriano by Oradea Becchetti, widow of Giovanni. She is shown kneeling in the shadow of Saint Francis's robes. The Latin inscription records that the picture "was dedicated to the Virgin Mary ... by Oradea of Giovanni out of compassion for her forebears and descendants".
Signed and dated on the throne. Inscribed: ALMAE CONSOLATIONIS MATRI. MARIAE: PRIORES. POSTEROSQ'[UE] MISERATA SVOS: ORADEA. IOAMNIS: AERE PROPRIO / NON MODICO DICAVIT.
