 | Description | |
Crivelli plays games with the surfaces of these pictures. The saints' feet project beyond their niches into the viewer's space. However, he also emphasises the fact that these are painted images by depicting an illusionistic fly on the surface of the Saint Catherine panel. The paintings are probably from a predella, the scenes below the main tier of an altarpiece.
