The Archangel Michael, as captain of the heavenly hosts, prepares to smite Satan. He also holds a balance in which the souls of the dead are weighed. Saint Michael, with Saint Lucy (displayed nearby) and two other saints (Jerome and Peter Martyr), formed the side panels of an Altarpiece for the church of San Domenico in Ascoli Piceno.
