 | Description | |
The Edwards befriended Fantin, and were his unofficial dealers in England. Mrs. Edwards's formidable personality dominates the portrait. She stands with her arms crossed behind her seated husband, who studies one of his etchings. At her request, Mr. Edwards had abandoned a successful legal career for the more precarious life of an artist.
Signed and dated : à mon ami E. Edwards Fantin 1875.
