 | Description | |
This began in about 1877 as a painting of the Brasserie de Reichshoffen, a recently opened café. It is one of two paintings Manet created from the original composition. The join where a new piece of canvas was added can be seen in the man's blue smock. Manet subsequently repainted the background, adding the dancer, musicians and, at the left, a conductor's baton.
The left half of the composition is in the Oskar Reinhart Collection, Winterthur. | More pictures | |
